Jeevankala is a veteran Indian actress and dancer best known for her work in Hindi and Marathi films primarily during the late 1950s through the 1960s. She became especially popular for her dance performances in several musical numbers and character roles in films. The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar gave her the name Jeevankala (“art of life”) when she was a child.Some of her most remembered performances were in musical dance numbers like “Hansta Hua Noorani Chehra” (from Parasmani), “Reshamachya Reghanni…”, and other song sequences in films including China Town, Taj Mahal, Ek Raaz, Himalay Ki Godmein etc.After a successful career on screen, she married film screenwriter and director Ram Kelkar in the late 1960s, who is the screenwriter for films like Ram Lakhan, Aasha and Khalnayak. Her children Manisha Kelkar and Hemant Kelkar continue her legacy.
